Edinburgh Film Festival announces screenings for 70th Edition

The Edinburgh Film Festival announced this week its lineup of films to be screened at this year’s historic 70th edition.

‘Tommy’s Honour’, Jason Connery’s drama about the real-life founders of golf will open the festival starring Sam Neill (Jurassic Park), Ophelia Lovibond (Guardians of the Galaxy) and Peter Mullan (War Horse).

Actor Brian Cox will appear in two of the selected films including ‘The Carer’ directed by János Edelényi alongside Emilia Fox (The Pianist) and Anna Chancellor (Downton Abbey, Law & Order) as well as Roger Moore who plays himself in the comedy.

This year’s selection also includes western drama 'Forsaken' directed by Jon Cassar about a gunslinger who is attempting to make amends with his estranged father while a gang of land-grabbers threatens their community. The film reunites Demi Moore and Kiefer Sutherland on screen for the first time since ‘A Few Good Men’ and stars Donald Sutherland, Michael Wincott and Brian Cox.

Other films selected include ‘Pale Star’, directed by Graeme Maley, ‘Sticky Notes’, directed by Amanda Sharp and 'Moon Dogs’. This year’s Bridging The Gap series will highlight 4 documentaries from women directors including Lucie Rachel’s ‘Where We Are Now’.

The Edinburgh Film Festival will also celebrate the 30th anniversary of ‘Highlander’ and screen for the first time the digitally restored 4K version of the film. The 1986 classic starring Christopher Lambert, Clancy Brown, Roxanne Hart and Sean Connery will be screened on June 18th. The festival will also feature Steven Spielberg’s ‘E.T’ with John Williams’ score performed by the Royal Scottish National Orchestra on June 25th.

This year’s festival will close with ‘Whisky Galore’, a remake of the 1949 film directed by Alexander Mackendrick starring Ellie Kendrick (An Education), James Cosmo (Troy, Braveheart) and comedian Eddie Izzard.
