shnit International Shortfilmfestival awarding $100,000 to filmmakers

This year’s shnit International Shortfilmfestival is inviting filmmakers from around the world to enter their films for the chance to win cash prizes and gain industry recognition.

The 12-day transnational event attracts over 30,000 visitors a year and will take place in 8 cities from Moscow to Cairo between October 5-16th. Launched in 2003 by the shnit FOUNDATION in Bern, Switzerland, the festival has become one of the largest international cultural events celebrating short films.

shnit has five main award categories with a $20,000 cash prize offered to each winning film. The festival’s prestigious FLAMING FAUN Award will be presented to the winners at this year’s shnit FINALE event in New York.

Filmmakers can submit their films of up to 40 minutes in length for the International Competition in any genre while local film directors can apply for the national competitions which are free to enter.

Entries are being accepted until June 1st and this year’s International Jury will nominate 3 films in each category. Past Jury members have included world renowned filmmakers such as Oscar winning director and screenwriter Paul Haggis.
