Gladiator 2 with Russell Crowe? A new sequel is in the works

A sequel to Ridley Scott’s legendary ‘Gladiator’ starring Russell Crowe is in the works according to the original film’s producers.

In an interview with Hey U Guys, the producers of the first film speak about the sequel where it would be set 25-30 years after the events of the first movie.

The original ‘Gladiator’ movie starring Russell Crowe, Joaquin Phoenix and Connie Nielsen received numerous awards including the Best Picture Oscar and went on to gross over $450 million worldwide.

The sequel is currently being written by Peter Craig (Credits include 'The Town', 'Blood Father') and will be potentially directed again by Ridley Scott who is working with producers Walter F. Parkes and Laurie MacDonald.

‘Gladiator’ was released in 2000 and filmed on location in Morocco, Malta and the U.K. The famous opening battle sequence in the original film was shot at the Bourne Woods near Farnham, which in the story was set in Germania AD 180, during Roman times.

At the time of its release, ‘Gladiator’ was hailed as a groundbreaking movie with masterful storytelling and is considered one of the best films of all time.

Will ‘Gladiator 2’ make it to the big screen? Following the events of the last film, it is conceivable that there will be a completely new cast and different set of events however details have yet to be revealed.
