Ayam Beirut Arab Film Festival opens today

Beirut Film FestivalThe 6th edition of Ayam Beirut Al Cinema Iya Film Festival starts today highlighting prolific and inspiring Arab and Lebanese films.

The Beirut DC Film Festival this year has partnered with the Dubai international film festival that are supporting a special workshop for documentary filmmakers which will award a support prize for a Lebanese documentary production. The winning documentary team will be selected for presentation at the 2010 Dubai Film Connection, the co-production film market hosted at the DIFF in December and will meet with financial and technical partners to help realize their documentary project.

A Lebanese-Danish exchange programme which invited six Lebanese filmmakers to shoot a documentary in Denmark will hold a masterclass on creative documentary filmmaking. Arne Bro, Head of the Documentary & Television Department at NFSD film school in Denmark will speak at the event and six projects will be screened during the festival.

Highly acclaimed Palestinian filmmaker Michel Khleifi will be presenting his first feature Fertile Memory and latest movie Zindeeq

Institutional partners of the respected film festival include French cultural channel Arte, Unifrance, the BBC and the British Council. This year s festival will include special guests from the World Cinema Fund, a workshop and pitching session for seven Arab documentary projects and master classes with award winning filmmakers including French director Olivier Assayas, who s film Carlos will close the festival on 26th September.
