WWE Superstar John Cena wins coveted charity award for $500,000 donation

John Cena, who plays in Paramount’s upcoming movie “Playing with Fire” has announced a $500,000 donation toward firefighters in California dealing with wildfires across the state. The actor, who plays a firefighter in the upcoming film wanted to give back to those that are risking their lives to protect the public. In a selfless act, Cena issued a statement on his Twitter account to his 11 million followers on behalf of the cast and crew of the film, which was praised by Paramount who also shared the announcement.

In recognition of his donation, The Cybersmile Foundation announced that they would be awarding the actor their coveted Cybersmiler of the Month award which recognizes the do-good of public figures, and encourages others to help improve people’s lives by committing acts of kindness. The charity is offered the award to Dwayne Johnson, Taylor Swift, Kristen Bell and Selena Gomez.

The WWE Superstar and actor will play the role of Jake Carson alongside actors Keegan-Michael Key, Judy Greer and Dennis Haysbert in “Playing with Fire” that went into production in 2018 and will be released next month by Paramount on November 8th.

Cena said, “On behalf of 'Playing With Fire' and out of respect to the people who I truly believe are heroes my response will be to immediately donate half a million dollars to this cause.”

"In times like this, when people are giving their lives and working around the clock what they need from us is resources."

The fires have disrupted a number of productions in California and also forced the cancellation of the red carpet premiere for “Terminator: Dark Fate.”

Katherine Schwarzenegger and Chris Pratt have also pledged to donate to help first responders and those affected by the wildfires.
