Russell Crowe and Hugh Jackman will become an onscreen duo in 'Les Miserables' which is being developed for a late 2012 release.
Crowe will portray Javert in the musical adaptation to screen and face his 'arch-nemisis' Jean Valijean played by Jackman. Tom Hooper, who made 'The King's Speech' an international success, and won many prestigious awards including an Oscar will direct. Crowe is one of the best character actors in Hollywood, but he also sings in his own band and has wanted to do a musical for a long time.
With Jackman and Crowe leading this pic, fans are already excited about the potential of this movie and its interpretation of one of history's most well known musical shows. Producer Sir Cameron Mackintosh also admitted that the casting and the talent involved in the film was a dream come true. The screen adaptation will be based on Victor Hugo's 1862 novel.
Some of the best musicals we have seen in recent years include 'Chicago' and 'Moulin Rouge', but this is the first time we have seen big action/epic actors come together in a musical of this scale.
