Master and Commander : The Far Side of the World mini review

The film is thoroughly researched with an aptitude for detail and a strong story about survival and the role of duty. Master and Commander is one of Russell Crowe's most interesting outings, as a Captain divided by his duties to keep order on his ship, and to maintain morale in the pursuit of a vastly superior enemy.

Winning 2 Oscars for Best Cinematography and Best Sound Editing, the film, nominated in 10 categories, missed out on Best Picture at the 2004 Academy Awards ceremony.

With a budget reportedly close to $150 million, the film attained a worldwide gross of more than $212 million. Russell Crowe also had learned how to play the violon for his role.
