British society of cinematographersFounded in 1949 the British Society of Cinematographers is a highly regarded professional organization in the UK that promotes the art of cinematography. It is supported by leading directors of photography and includes an invite only membership. Cinematic standards The British Society of Cinematographers over the decades has highlighted the application of high standards in the motion picture industry. Thanks to the shared knowledge of its founding members, the BSC has become a go-to resource for current and future DoPs. Membership The BSC has different levels of membership including Full Membership (invite-only): Must be nominated by an existing BSC member, reside in the UK, and be currently employed. Other rules apply to full membership. Associate Membership : Available to Camera Operators, Specialist cinematographers. Honarary membership : Available to Full or Associate members reaching the age of 70 or have retired. Patron Members : For companies associated with DoPs and camera departments. Awards The BSC awards top cinematographers in several categories including the Lifetime Achievement Award and Best Cinematography Award.
