Lupita Nyong’o will have a much smaller role in “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” after several of her scenes as Maz Kanata were reportedly removed from the final cut.

Despite having won the Oscar for Best Supporting Actress back in 2013, according to The Sun, her acting in J.J. Abrams’ latest picture was not up to standard, and the role has been cut back.

The actress struggled with the CGI in the film, and this may have resulted in her role being scaled back in the final edit. As actors have to perform in various scenarios often with green screen sometimes they can lose touch with their characters in these more difficult setups. In "Star Wars 7," motion capture technology was used in the production. A lot of her dialogue was also re-recorded according to the initial report suggesting that there may have been some post-production ADR (voice dubbing) to improve the scenes which were kept. This however is not confirmed.

J.J. Abrams recently spoke about how it had been a “horrifying” experience to show the first cut of the film to Disney’s senior executives, acknowledging the scale and responsibility the director has to meet expectations of millions of fans. With tickets already surpassing $50m for the film pre-release, “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” could make history for the franchise in terms of sales.
