Star Wars : The Force Awakens breaks pre-box office records

The new Star Wars film isn’t even out yet but advanced ticket sales have already exceeded $50m.

Numbers pre-release for “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” are staggering and the film could gross $100m in advanced ticket sales before it’s even hit theaters.

J.J. Abrams’ directorial Star Wars debut is the most anticipated film of 2015 with box office revenues for the film excepted to be gigantic. Could this be the biggest film release of all time? The hype for the film is also being felt by retailers as pre-Christmas sales for Star Wars merchandise picks up.

With just a month to go, Star Wars creator George Lucas recently announced in an interview with Vanity Fair that he was done with the franchise, and that Disney had their own ideas for the film. Lucas, who handed the franchise over to Disney for more than $4 billion, had no creative input in the “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” while director J.J. Abrams is said to be nervous about the film’s release.

Abrams was criticized for his overuse of lens flares in “Star Trek” back in 2009, despite the film becoming a huge international success. This month the film was shown to a terminally ill Star Wars fan before the final cut.

“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” reunites the cast of the original franchise and is set 30 years after “Star Wars: Episode VI - Return of the Jedi.” The film’s cast includes Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Daisy Ridley, Harrison Ford, John Boyega and Kenny Baker. The film is set for release December 18th.
