The “Mockingjay” star told EW that she had wanted to direct ever since she began her career as an actress. Her directing debut will be based on an article that was originally published in the New Yorker, around the concept of mental warfare in the 1960s.

Jennifer Lawrence recently appeared in “The Hunger Games: Mockingjay Part 2” which has grossed more than $300 million worldwide and topped the UK Box Office after a subdued opening weekend in the US.

Being one of the most bankable stars in the world, Lawrence’s new journey behind the camera could be compared to that of Angelina Jolie, who went on to direct several features outside of her acting career.

With so few women directors in the film industry, Lawrence’s decision to go behind-the-camera may give a voice to other young female directors who aspire to shoot feature films.

Back in October the EEOC (Equal Employment Opportunity Commission) began to interview female directors regarding discrimination in the TV and film industry. The ACLU had filed a complaint regarding the lack of gender equality in Hollywood and started to advocate for more opportunities
for women.

Recently several Hollywood studios created new jobs to boost diversity in the workforce and more production companies are set to make changes.

No release date has yet been announced for “Project Delirium” however Jennifer Lawrence has been working on her first screenplay with Amy Schumer and will be involved in several creative projects in 2016.
