Dark Knight Rises beats Madagascar 3's worldwide box office

Dark Knight Rises vs Madagascar 3

The Dark Knight Rises has already overtaken family friendly 'Madagascar 3 in worldwide box office takings, passing the $500 million mark after a stormy opening.

Analysts had predicted that The Dark Knight Rises lost millions in its opening week due to the Batman shootings, but it hasn't deterred the strong international hype for the film. In fact, 'The Dark Knight Rises' has done so well it will likely overtake 'The Amazing Spider-Man' and 'Ice Age: Continental Drift' within the next 7 to 10 days globally.

At the US box office, 'The Dark Knight Rises' remained at the top this week with an additional $64 million in receipts putting its total at $289 million so far. 'Madagascar 3' pased $500 million in worldwide receipts over the weekend and has earned a total of $209 million at the US box office.

Will the Dark Knight Rises reach the $500 million mark at the domestic box office?
