Breaking Dawn Part 1 eludes franchise fatigue with $139 million

The hype was real for Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 1 as the film took in a massive $139 million on its opening, and almost matched its predecessor’s smash record.

Twilight Saga Breaking Dawn Part 1[/caption]Speculation ahead of the release suggested the film’s box office takings could suffer as we have already seen a few of these movies, but proof of big attendance at the theatres continues to prove audiences are hungry for more teen vampire flicks. In total, the film has already made a whopping $283 million worldwide. It is also the fifth largest opening for a US release despite being the fourth installment in the movie franchise.

Kristin Stewart, Robert Pattinson and Taylor Lautner have become the new ‘super-celebrities’ of Hollywood because of their young international fan bases. Moviegoers should expect many more Twilight movies to come, along with other blockbuster sequels including Pirates Of The Caribbean 5 and Kung Fu Panda 3, 4, 5, 6 and possibly a reboot 10 years later. For now, ‘Star Trek 2’ is about to go into production.
