'47 Ronin' is set to lose $175 million after an incredibly weak opening in the US and Japan, making it one of the biggest flops of 2013. However, audience sentiment for the movie contradicted the film's critical panning.

In the run up to the film's release, '47 Ronin' was annihilated by reviewers worldwide. It failed to even get a solid 2 out of 10, but fans of the movie gave it an average of 7/10. Topping the box office in Taiwan, Singapore and Malaysia, the film received praise from the fans, but on arrival at the domestic box office, it didn't gain more than $7 million on opening day.
