A report released by the MPAA shows how the TV and film industries have contributed $47 billion in wages with salaries of working professionals 42% above the national average.

In 2013, the industry employed over 1.9 million people and directly supported more than 300,000 production jobs in the marketing, manufacturing and distribution of films and TV shows.

The distribution of motion pictures also supported 358,000 jobs in related businesses, from plastic manufacturers to utility companies.

Overall, figures for 2013 showed that the industry generated $130 billion in sales, which was a jump of 5% from previous years.

States such as Georgia, Ohio and Missouri benefitted from local TV and film production which boosted jobs not just in production but in the hospitality industry.

Films such as Disney and Marvel's, "Captain America: The Winter Soldier," secured $31 million for the state of Ohio while local TV and film production supported 31,700 jobs.

2014 was a record breaking year for New York where $9.8 billion in wages were paid to 95,000 people. Thanks to a boom in TV production the state of New York has also benefitted from increased inward expenditure.

While 2014 was a bumper year for productions, demand at the box office lagged behind 2013 with a 5.2% drop in demand.

So far this year there have been several highly successful films at the US Box Office including, "Avengers: Age of Ultron," and "Furious 7," starring the late Paul Walker. Produced by Universal, "Furious 7" has grossed nearly $1.5 billion worldwide.
