Despite generally positive reviews and great feedback from audiences, “The Lego Movie 2” looks set to become Hollywood’s latest underperformer in what has been a very slow start to the year.
In fact, things were so bad that at the beginning of the month the box office recorded its worst weekend performance in 19 years, but hopes were that new blockbuster releases coming out later this year would prove to reverse this trend.
Is this a sign of more pain to come for upcoming releases? Demand for content has never been so high with Netflix adding record numbers of subscribers, but this may in turn be eroding the theatrical business as people spend more time in front of their screens at home.
