For the seventh consecutive year, the Filmarket Hub platform and the Sitges Film Festival are partnering to host Sitges Pitchbox - an international pitch event dedicated to horror, sci-fi and fantasy films and series in development.

This year's edition will run alongside the brand new Showrunners LAB - an introductory seminar on the ‘role of the Showrunner’ in series productions. The lab will invite prominent showrunners who will present and analyse three international models of showrunning; from the United States, the Scandinavian Countries and Spain. Recently confirmed mentors include Nick Antosca from the United States and Teresa Fernández-Valdés from Spain.

Antosca is a screenwriter, producer and writer. In his career, within the fantastic serial production, the popular ‘Channel Zero’ (HBO), created by himself, stands out; and the episodes written for ‘Hannibal’; ‘Believe’ and ‘The Act’. Currently, he is about to release the feature film ‘Antlers’, a film produced by Guillermo del Toro and based on a short story by Antosca himself, who has co-written the script.

Fernández-Valdés is co-founder of the production company Bambú Producciones. Alongside with Ramón Campos, they managed to standed out prominently in the fiction scene and produced different series that achieved national and international success: ‘Velvet’, ‘Cocaine Coast’ and ‘Cable Girls’ (first series produced for Netflix in Spain) are some of them. Currently, Bambú is immersed in the production of ‘A Private Affair’, first series of the company for Amazon starred by Jean Reno and Aura Garrido, and ‘Now And Then’, the first Apple TV Spanish series, a thriller set in Miami, filmed both in English and Spanish.

Representatives from the five European series projects selected at Sitges Online Pitchbox 2021 will be invited to participate at the lab and offered 1to1 advisory sessions with the mentors. The lab will also host masterclasses exploring the main characteristics of the different international models of showrunning, as well a presentation of case studies. Showrunners LAB is supported and co-organised by Europa Creativa Desk - MEDIA Catalunya.

The Sitges Online Pitchbox 2021 call for submissions will be open until the 7th of September.

More information about Sitges Online Pitchbox 2021 and the Showrunners LAB can be found on the official website.
