Award-winning short film “Lifeline” has been made available for free today to coincide with National Suicide Prevention Month.

Written and directed by L. Marcus Williams, the short film is based on the real-life experience of the filmmaker, who worked as a crisis hotline operator and is a survivor of attempted suicide.

Produced in 2018 while studying at Brooklyn College, Williams earned a degree in psychology and film, and received a grant from the National Board of Review after winning a student filmmaking competition which enabled him to develop the project.

The powerful short film has played at several international film festivals, receiving a host of awards and critical acclaim from reviewers. Alan Ng from Film Threat called the film a “stunning” and “bold take on a serious subject.” Richard Propes for The Independent Critic said that it was “a deeply involving, unforgettable short film.”

Since its release, the filmmaker has also been developing several new arthouse projects that will highlight social issues through his production company A Fly on the 4th Wall.
