EXCLUSIVE: Post-Cannes, science fiction fantasy drama "2050" starring Dean Cain (Lois and Clark, Supergirl, God’s Not Dead) has landed a South Korean deal via NK Contents.
Founded in 2013, NK Contents, the buyer and foreign distributor based in Seoul, acquires and distributes films, TV shows, and animation and distributes to them to theaters, IPTVs, and digital platforms. The company has purchased all South Korean distribution rights to the film, which is based on a script by writer/co-producer Brian Ackley. It will receive a South Korean release in late October. The deal was brokered by New York based sales agency Hewes Pictures and NK’s Yerin Chung.
“2050 is a futuristic, yet very realistic concept. We can’t wait to see the Korean audience’s reaction to it,” said Chung.
Directed by producer-turned-distribution executive Princeton Holt, it stars Cain as Maxwell, the mastermind behind a secret warehouse that customizes androids for human companionship. Stormi Maya (Death Kiss, Netflix’s She’s Gotta Have It, The Last OG), Stefanie Bloom (The Perfect Murder), Hope Blackstock (The Report) co-star."2050" also stars David Vaughn (Resident Evil 2, Shared Rooms) and Chris Riquinha (Sex & Violence, Uptown), who also shared producing duties. Actors Irina Abraham, Devin Fuller, Jace Nicole, Shannone Holt, and Jonathan Ercolino complete this accomplished ensemble, who collectively have won multiple Best Ensemble Cast film festival awards, as well as individual awards for their performances.
While still gaining momentum by making its way into select theaters across the U.S., the film previously premiered at many genre film festivals including the Boston Sci Fi Film Festival (winning the Most Provocative Film Award), Other World’s Austin, and the Berlin Sci Fi Film Festival, "2050" has picked up over 15 awards and nominations along the way, including 2 Best Cinematography awards for Jared Roybal, its director of photography.
New theatrical openings for "2050" are soon to be announced via ANERKE, the boutique label that handles the film’s U.S. theatrical rights.
