Paul Walker is a big American star, but recently he appeared in a film called 'Vehicle 19' which only managed to earn a measly £227 ($367) in cinemas.
Having recently starred in 'Fast & Furious 6' opposite Vin Diesel, it's hard to imagine how Paul Walker could go from a film that earned a whopping £23.5 million ($38m) at the UK box office to the measly sum of £227. Let's look at the numbers to see how bad it really is:
According to Box Office Mojo, 'Vehicle 19' is the worst performing film of the year, trailing a host of indie film releases and currently ranks in 385th position. What makes this even more embarrassing is the cumulative box office total for 'Fast and Furious 6' which is ranked 8th, at the complete opposite end of the spectrum. That's undoubtedly one of the best performing action movies of the year. Do you remember those epic posters in the London underground of the Fast & Furious cast? You couldn't avoid them.
Going back to 'Vehicle 19', Paul Walker can certainly buy a medium sized LCD TV with the money the film earned, but what about the rest of the cast and crew? Does that even pay a one-way ticket on British Airways to London?
If you look closely at the poster, and the trailer, it certainly doesn't look low budget. It's not a shoestring indie film with less than £1k to spare. It's definitely credible, and fits a demographic of people that like an action thrill.
Quick Synopsis : Paul Walker plays a foreigner who gets into a rental car that ties him into a circle of police corruption.
When it comes to the reviews, it was given an apocalyptic 24% on Rotten Tomatoes. They are quite brutal as well, and somewhat humorous:
"A lean, low-budget and claustrophobic mistaken-identity thriller that's so stripped-down, it's nearly nonexistent." -
"It gives us the urge to get out and walk.
" - The Guardian
"Mr. Walker’s character is haunted by a troubled past, but the film would have been better if it had given him more to do in the present."
- NY Times
Produced by Forefront Media Group and The Safran Company, it looks like this film didn't get a big release although it certainly had the potential to get a bigger audience. Even the Facebook page was 'removed' for this film. Was this just an unfortunate dent in Paul Walker's formidable career?
