Comedian Mo Gilligan has joined Cybersmile and Instagram on a charity initiative to highlight the issue of banter, and the risk of taking it too far.
The comedian participated in a Q and A which he launched on his IGTV today to coincide with Anti-Bullying Week in the U.K. In the video, Gilligan talks about what he thinks about banter, and when it crosses the line. “As a comic, I try to make everyone laugh, but I don’t like to pick on people,” said Gilligan.
Since releasing his video on IGTV, it has amassed over 25k views in just the first two hours of it going live. The comedian also joins stars Zoe Sugg and Chessie King who are participating in Anti-bullying Week Initiatives for Cybersmile, and who have previously supported the organisation.
Responding to the Q and A on when banter crosses the line, Mo Gilligan said, “I think there is always a line to cross..if you make a joke on someone..just keep it light hearted.”
“You want to be laughing with them, not at them!”

The comedian shot to fame after releasing daily DIY comedy videos on Instagram and became a viral sensation, earning him a sell-out tour. The comedian also received his first BAFTA nomination this year. Earlier in the summer it was also announced that Mo Gilligan would be releasing a stand-up special on Netflix which will air globally on November 30th.
The Cybersmile Foundation and Instagram released a report yesterday that revealed 66% of people aged 13-18 said they had noticed somebody else left upset or insulted by banter on at least one occasion. The report also showed that 64% of 13-18 year olds in the U.K. either ‘loved’ or ‘liked’ banter.
Every year, Anti-Bullying Week highlights important anti-bullying initiatives and charities that help victims of harassment, abuse and cyberbullying.
Cybersmile and Instagram teamed up to raise awareness of banter and to educate people about when it can go too far in their initiative which was officially launched on Monday.
