'Matrix' and 'Cloud Atlas' director Larry Wachowski has sex change

We've seen the trailer and the radical 'Cloud Atlas' production stills, but now the film's director has publicly announced a gender switch.

Formally known as Larry Wachowski, the 'Matrix' director has gone through a sex-change operation and for the first time 'she' will be known as "Lana".

Earlier this week 'Cloud Atlas', based on a sci-fi story written by David Mitchell was a hot topic after a long 6-minute trailer featuring Halle Berry and Tom Hanks was released. The film explores how people's actions have impacts throughout history in the past, present and future. It is directed by Andy and Lana Wachowski.

The cult director behind one of the greatest action films of all time (The Matrix) is still reportedly going through the process of transitioning from male to female, which has taken several years.

Will other transgenders come out publicly in light of Lana's move?
