His film debut in 'A Nightmare on Elm Street' in 1984 would give him the foundations of a successful career but it was not until 1987 that he made it big in his breakout role of Tommy Hanson in TV series '21 Jump Street'.
Since his rise to fame, Depp has portrayed a diverse range of characters, often imitating accents and studying voices to perfect his onscreen dialogue. Depp's many collaborations with Tim Burton has given him a cult 'character' status from his role as Edward Scissorhands in 1990 to his most recent outing in Burton's 'Dark Shadows'.

Johnny Depp has been nominated for 3 Academy Awards and 11 Golden Globes. He has also received numerous nods and wins including an MTV Movie Award for 'Best Comedic Performance' in 'Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End.'
