Free 2-day Arthouse film festival to launch in Manhattan

Bronx World Film Cylcle starts this weekend

New York, 12th December - Arthouse film lovers in the New York City area are invited to Bronx World Film Cycle 2013, a multidisciplinary presentation spotlighting independent Central American and world cinema this December 14th and 15th at “La Nacional,” the Spanish Benevolent Society’s brownstone headquarters at 239 West 14th Street.

The 2-day free event includes live music, poetry and performance, an art exhibit and Central American finger foods. Bronx World Film Cycle returns for the third year to the venue that has welcomed it since its launch in 2011, conveniently located a short walk from the Meatpacking District.

The program features the world premiere of Chris Raffaele’s The Grasslands, shot entirely in The Bronx, in old-fashioned celluloid black and white; US premieres of new-generation works – several shot on an iPhone -- from Guatemala, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic and India; animated and poetic films from Israel, Germany and Finland; the work of experimentalist Bob Paris, who proves political activism can coexist with great cinema, along with The Cluster Project collective; a dance film and a parkour film from Deirdre Towers; the experimental audiovisual tone poems produced by S/N Coalition, a Meet the Filmmaker forum and a gala closing event with music, dance and poetry.

This flagship event is presented by Bronx World Film (www.bronxworldfilm.org) a not-for-profit corporation dedicated to the independent film industry as an engine for integral human development.

In addition, the organization creates film and arts events for underserved communities, offers support to emerging young filmmakers, creates a unique catalogue of works for continued screening, and forges partnerships for independent local film production.
