Film school students in the spotlight at Cannes

Every year the Cannes Film festival welcomes film school submissions as part of the competition selection.

Away from the glamour of the red carpet, the Cinéfondation selection highlights young filmmakers from all over with creative short films. With thousands of submissions every year, the festival chooses around 20 that are screened in several programs throughout the festival.

There are few festivals that highlight film students like Cannes, and when filmmakers get the chance to see their film on the big screen, it’s already a great achievement.

Where would a film festival be without short films? The industry has changed so much these past few years that short filmmaking is much more respected than before, with celebrities and musicians turning to the format and putting it online.
