Drug that killed MJ used 'improperly' on Joan Rivers

Joan Rivers was given an inconsistent dose of propofol during the medical procedure where she later died from complications, according to several reports.

Rivers' was sedated with the anaesthetic but she was not weighed before the operation meaning that the dosage could have been incorrect. There is contradictory information regarding the exact dose she was given, which was also damned by investigators looking into the procedures carried out at the clinic.

The Daily Beast cites that she received twice the normal dose required while the Daily Mail highlights that official records showed she was given 300 milligrams but this was denied by the clinic's anaesthesiologist.

During the throat procedure Joan Rivers' health deteriorated but medical staff were unaware that she was in danger, and didn't intervene in time. To make matters worse, a staffer at the clinic allegedly took pictures of her while she was sedated on a cellphone.

Michael Jackson was administered a fatal dose of propofol back in 2009 which led to his untimely and tragic death. While Joan Rivers' suffered from complications during the medical procedure that was considered routine, the New York State Health department was critical about their findings.

Attorneys for Joan Rivers' daughter, Melissa Rivers, issued a public statement following the release of the findings to People Magazine:

"Our client, Melissa Rivers, is terribly disappointed to learn of the multiple failings on the part of medical personnel and the clinic as evidenced by the CMS report. As any of us would be, Ms. Rivers is outraged by the misconduct and mismanagement now shown to have occurred before, during and after the procedure."

Joan Rivers died of brain damage following a cardiac arrest during the operation which was seen as a possible complication.

Her daughter is now pursuing legal action and will be filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the clinic according to TMZ.

Joan Rivers featured in the critically acclaimed documentary about her life, which was released back in 2010. The actress and comedian was renowned for her unique sense of style and humor, and was one of Hollywood's TV icons, making her first major debut back in 1965 on the Tonight Show.
