The Cannes Film Festival has revealed the official selection of short films this year however one film was omitted from the lineup after it had broken the submission rules.
'A Passo d'Uomo', directed by Giovanni Aloi will no longer be part of the official short film selection lineup which will now only be showing 9 films. The nominees in this year's contest include a 15 minute short from Azerbaijan entitled 'Sonunucu' (The Last one). Abbas Kiarostami, who is this year's President of the Jury, will award the Short Film Palme d'Or on the 24th May.
There were a total of 3450 short films submitted this year for the official competition and separately, for the Cinéfondation category, 1631 films were submitted. This selection recognizes student filmmakers from around the world and is also highly competitive.
16 films will compete in this category with students in a variety of countries vying for the festival's top honors. From NYU to Le Fresnoy and the Hampshire College in the USA, film schools have been making their submissions this past year to get their students' work recognized in Cannes.
The award ceremony for the Cinéfondation selection will take place on the 22nd May.
