William Shatner and Patrick Stewart should return in Star Trek 3

It's pretty obvious that Star Trek fans want to see Kirk and Picard back somehow on screen in the next Star Trek movie and producers should take note.

At Comic-Con in San Diego William Shatner was asked whether the rumors about him starring in the upcoming "Star Trek Beyond" movie were true. He carefully avoided answering the question:

"This reporter knew more about it than I did,”

Shatner said, referring to the rumor of him being cast in the first Star Trek film (2009) that later turned out to be false. He then replied during the panel discussion,

“So back to you my friend! What do you know? Am I in the next movie? Tell me!”

With "Star Trek Beyond" slated to be the last movie in the new Star Trek trilogy, Trekkies are hoping to see some cameos of Shatner, Patrick Stewart and others following the passing of Leonard Nimoy who featured in the two previous films, directed by J.J. Abrams.

Remember this iconic moment in "Star Trek: Generations"?

Picard and Kirk : Did we make a difference?

How can we not want to see some of the old Star Trek cast back in action? Even Patrick Stewart hinted he was open to returning as Picard if the script was right and it's also going to be the 50th anniversary in 2016. That would need at least some kind of onscreen reunion.

"Star Trek Beyond" is being penned by Simon Pegg, and Doug Jung and stars actress Zoe Saldana as Uhura, Chris Pine as Kirk and Zachary Quinto as Spock. Who else can we expect to see? The film's theatrical release is scheduled for July 2016.
