The Expendables to revive the 80s action genre

The highly anticipated The Expendables comes out this week with the meanest, baddest action stars of a generation including Sylvester Stallone, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Bruce Willis, Jason Statham and Jet Li.

At 64, Stallone is fighting back a CGI dominated action world, where wires and green screens are now omnipresent in every major movie release, to show audiences what real action is all about. Stallone, who leads a team of mercenaries to overthrow a dictator of a fictitious nation, broke his neck and tore his shoulder filming fight scenes with Steve Austin. The Expendables , a spectacular action adventure, brings back the classic toughness of action heroes in an era now dominated by special effects. Stallone who directs and stars in The Expendables has been at the forefront of Hollywood action blockbusters since the first Rocky, and has come back in full form to bring on an exceptional cast of real life tough guys.

Action fans will be craving to see the first ever on screen collaboration between Stallone and Schwarzenegger, and not to mention the likes of Bruce Willis and martial arts superstar Jet Li in the same movie. As 3D and CGI become part of mainstream commercial releases, The Expendables could revive the action genre era of the 80s if it is a success.

The Expendables is no doubt the biggest action movie of the decade, and brings together the dream cast of all action fans together. One thing is for sure, an instant classic awaits us.
