The Bourne Legacy delayed by competing films

Fourth Bourne film gets a new release date

The Bourne Legacy has had its release date pushed back by a week due to the 'The Dark Knight Rises' and 'Total Recall'.

The fourth film in the Bourne franchise was originally set for an August 3rd release but Deadline confirmed this afternoon that Universal decided to delay it to get extra time to promote the two movies during the London Olympics (among other reasons).

With these 3 big films coming out this summer the competition between studios is going to be big. Total Recall is getting a re-boot, the hype for 'The Dark Knight Rises' is huge, and the expectations for a new Bourne sequel is equally matched.

In addition to this summer's epic blockbuster line up comes the uncertainty over whether 'The Bourne Legacy' can perform well without Matt Damon. The fan base of the Bourne movies wont disappear but its not going to be an easy switch from Damon when he has built up such a cult following from the previous 3 movies.

Taking that same argument, the 'Total Recall' reboot is also a high risk move as replacing Schwarzenegger with a younger star 20 years on might not spell success.

By summer's end, one of these movies is going to come out on top but we will have to wait and see.

The Bourne Legacy is now scheduled for an August 10th release.
