Star Trek captain Patrick Stewart had one more shot

Patrick Stewart revealed at the Official Star Trek convention in Las Vegas that a fifth Star Trek  : The Next Generation movie was in the works during the filming of Nemesis.

The sequel to Nemesis was being developed by co-star Brent Spiner (Data) and screenwriter John Logan.

Stewart, who played Jean Luc Picard, captain of the USS Enterprise in the TV series and subsequent Star Trek movie franchise said It would have been a real farewell to Next Generation, but it would have involved other historic aspects of Star Trek as well.

Stewart added I can t go into details because the project wasn't mine. When that didn't happen, the studio announced in its own inimitable way that we were suffering from franchise fatigue and that there was to be no more, and I am absolutely content with that.

Nemisis, the final Star Trek movie was not well received, and underperformed at the US box office. Paramount Studios decided to pull the plug on the franchise which was later rebooted in the new Star Trek movie, that was an international hit, including a performance from Leonard Nimoy, who played Spock in the original series.

William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy also appeared at the convention alongside Patrick Stewart.
