Reaction to Coen Brothers True Grit movie

LOS ANGELES, USA - The Coen Brothers are getting rave reviews for their new Western adventure True Grit . The film is an adaptation of Charles Portis novel set in the 60s about a U.S Marhsal who helps a young woman find her father s killers.

Facing a fierce weekend Box Office competition with Little Fockers earning over $30 million it was clear that this wasn't going to be a blockbuster, but the film is seen as the best film yet from the directors who have brought new life to the Western genre.

In recent years Western films have faded away as they become fazed out of mainstream culture, unlike their huge popularity in the 50s and 60s, Westerns rarely get funded today.

The film boasts a diverse cast of actors including Jeff Bridges, Matt Damon, Josh Brolin, and Halle Steinfeld and excels in its own style and personal touch.

Reviews and opinions of True Grit

It's a real western, good enough to remind us why this strand of storytelling became a bedrock for the nation and a Hollywood mainstay for half a century or more. Shamefully overlooked in the Golden Globes, "True Grit" is right up there with the best pictures of the year. CNN

True Grit is the Coen Brothers best, in large part because it isn't the best Coen Brothers film. Or to say it another way, it s their least characteristic film. Audiences seem to agree the movie opened Wednesday to strong box office, and will likely be the brothers most popular movie ever. Sanfranciscosentinal.com

The casting for this film is spot on. Jeff Bridges does a spectacular job and gives a riveting performance as Cogburn. You can t help but wonder what he ll do next as the movie goes along. He s got his own set of morals and decides what s right and wrong, and it s not always in line with what you or I might think is right or wrong. Movieexpertblog.com

"One of the best films of 2010 (you can see where it ranks on our list of the top 10 movies of the year tomorrow), "True Grit" features award-worthy performances from the always reliable Bridges and Damon, as well as a star-making turn by Steinfeld, holding her own against these established vets in her big-screen debut" MTV
