Morgan Freeman donates a big to Super PAC
Actor Morgan Freeman has donated a big $1 million check to the pro Obama 'Super PAC'.
Priorities USA Action received the donation last month raising June's total to $6 million in funds raised. However, Morgan Freeman's donation did not exceed Irwin Jacobs, the former director of Qualcomm Inc who wrote a check for $2 million.
Freeman's donation comes at a time when the Obama campaign is struggling to keep up with Mitt Romney's extraordinary funding efforts. One of the reasons behind this is that Obama supporters rely on a large amount of smaller donations, whereas Romney has many large individual donations.
Morgan Freeman statement on donation
"President Obama has done a remarkable job in terrible circumstances," the actor said. "He has ended combat operations in Iraq, put in place sensible reforms of Wall Street, saved the auto industry and protected the healthcare of every American with a preexisting condition. He has recognized the full equality of all our brothers and sisters and placed impressive, accomplished women on the Supreme Court. In return for this he is being targeted by hundreds of millions of dollars in special-interest money. I for one am proud to lend my voice - and support - to those who defend him."
