Fake celebrity profiles run wild
It's become the latest internet craze : the rise of the celebrity alter-egos and evil twin accounts. On Twitter, the likes of George Clooney, Megan Fox and even Carly Rae Jepsen are falling victim to their evil, diabolical twin.
Nobody wants to be in a relationship with someone they have to "watch".
In actual fact a majority of these fake celebrity accounts are quite over-the-top and no doubt a good side-order of fun. For fans who don't get to connect with their favorite stars because they have chosen to stay offline, it's an entertaining compromise. But for some celebs who are highly connected such as Carly Rae Jepsen with 4 million followers, you really have to double check who's saying what. Her alter-ego account has more than 111,000 followers and can easily fool people to add her with that huge list:
Just a few months ago, a fake Angelina Jolie account was given a famous blue tick by Twitter only to be classified as a fraud after some totally un-characteristic comments. Celebs like Charlie Sheen on the other hand might find the dark-side pretty amusing, giving them an overview on how other people interpret them. With that said, should big names be more pro-active in protecting their personal names from being 'tools' on the web? Surely if enough news agencies quote an evil twin account, millions of people are going to get the wrong end of the stick!
