Katherine Schwarzenegger, Laura Ling win Girl Power Award

Katherine Schwarzenegger and Laura Ling among other prominent entrepreneurs won the Girl Power award yesterday from the charitable organization ‘A Place Called home.’

Maria Shriver turned to twitter and praised her daughter Katherine after she received the Girl Power Award, which is given to ‘inspirational women’. Katherine Schwarzenegger is an author and activist, having partnered with several organizations including the White Ribbon Alliance and CARE to raise awareness of maternal mortality. She has also helped young women improve their self image.

Laura Ling, who was one of the recipients at the ceremony rose to international fame after she crossed over inadvertently into North Korea from China and was sentenced to 12 years labour. Her capture led to an international effort to bring her home, and she returned after an unannounced visit to the secretive state by former US President Bill Clinton.

A Place Called Home is a charitable organization based in Los Angeles with a non-profit youth center, helping under privileged youths through various education programs including fitness and counseling.

Celebrity supporters of the non-profit organization include Shannon Elizabeth, Orlando Jones and Jamie Lee Curtis.
