Inception enters 2011 Academy Awards VFX shortlist

LOS ANGELES, USA - Leonardo DiCaprio's highly acclaimed 'Inception', directed by Christopher Nolan is one of 15 films short listed for a Visual Effects Award at the 2011 Oscars.

As the competition gets more intense leading up to January's announcement of the final 7 films to get nominations, the film industry is taking bets as to which films are likely to get the most nominations.

How do films get nominated for a VFX Oscar?

The members of the Academy s Visual Effects Branch Executive Committee choose the top contending films and will then be shown 15 minute experts of the final 7 shortlisted films in January afterwhich they will then nominate the five films that will be vying for the Oscar

83rd Academy Awards show

The 83rd Academy Awards nominations will be announced live on Tuesday, January 25, 2011, at 5:30 a.m. PT in the Academy s Samuel Goldwyn Theater.

Academy Awards for outstanding film achievements of 2010 will be presented on Sunday, February 27, 2011, at the Kodak Theatre at Hollywood & Highland Center ®, and televised live by the ABC Television Network. The Oscar presentation also will be televised live in more than 200 countries worldwide
