Online platform Filmarket Hub has launched the 2022 edition of its screenwriting contest for English language feature films. This yearly initiative aims to discover fresh voices and connect emerging screenwriters with the industry. The call for submissions will be open until December 14.
Hayley McKenzie (CEO and Founder at Script Angel / Co-Founder at Studio21 International), Matt Dy (Literary Manager at Lit Entertainment Group) and Scott Pope (Development Coordinator at Sky Studios) comprise this year’s jury. The contest winner will be awarded a $3,000 cash prize, while the two finalists will receive a $1,000 cash prize each.
The winner will also be invited to participate at either the Filmarket Hub UK or US Online Pitchbox event; a virtual pitch event matching high-quality films and series in development with leading companies in the industry. To date, there have been five editions of the UK Online Pitchbox showcasing unproduced British projects, attended by companies such as Bankside, BBC Films, Caryn Mandabach Productions, Lionsgate and Red Arrow Studios. Last September, the inaugural US Online Pitchbox was attended by executives from companies such as Anonymous Content, Blumhouse, BRON, HBO Max and NBCUniversal.
The contest winner will also receive a bespoke coaching package worth £2,000 from renowned script development consultancy Script Angel. Additionally, the project will be presented at FEST — Pitching Forum; an international film financing and co-production event focused on the facilitation, development, and financing of film projects.
All the contest finalists will have script feedback from the competition’s Executive Partners; Clerkenwell Films (‘The Dig, ‘The End of the F***ing World’), FilmNation Entertainment (‘Arrival’, ‘I Know This Much Is True’) and Warp Films (‘This Is England’, ‘Everybody’s Talking About Jamie’). They will also receive script feedback from the Script Compass team, experts in script development.
Other awards include Final Draft screenwriting software, access to Roadmap Writers On-Ramp Program, Pro Account memberships to Scribe Lounge, exclusive discounts at the Writers Store and Curzon membership.
