Director of Dog Day Afternoon, Sidney Lumet passes at 86

Legendary American film director Sidney Lumet has passed away at the age of 86.

The man behind such classics as '12 Angry Men', 'Serpico' and Al Pacino's highly acclaimed bank robbery turned fiasco 'Dog Day Afternoon' will be greatly missed by those who worked with him.

Lumet started his career in the entertainment industry directing theatre and moved on to Television production before he shot his first classic, 1957 '12 Angry Men'. The director worked with some of the greatest actors of a generation including Paul Newman, Sean Connery, Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, Ingrid Berman and Fate Dunaway.

With his films cultivating American culture, most prominently in the 1970s, his directorial flair and ability to capture audiences will be remembered.

In 2005, Sidney Lumet won the Lifetime Achievement Academy Award.
