Calls for national boycott of TBS after Samantha Bee’s Ivanka Trump outburst

Samantha Bee is under fire after she made damning comments about Ivanka Trump, which was condemned by the White House and critics on social media.

The comedian who hosts “Full Frontal” slammed Ivanka Trump over her stance as a mother on the President’s immigration policies. She called her a “feckless c***!”

Bee had been highlighting the administration’s recent actions on immigration which had led to the separation of undocumented children from their parents when she made the remarks.

Following a racist outburst by Roseanne Barr regarding an Obama aide this week, ABC canceled “Roseanne” within hours. And with Bee’s latest comments, there is a growing call for her show to also face the same fate.

On Twitter, critics have set up a hashtag calling for a public boycott of TBS network until her show is canceled.

The issue of profanity on shows towards political and public figures has raised concerns that other popular programs may face increased media pressure and calls for boycotts. Broadcasters too are also reviewing content being aired that could cause unforseen, negative media coverage.

In the wake of ABC’s decision to cancel “Roseanne,” there is even less room for such profanity to go without critique, despite Samantha Bee’s apology just a short while ago.

“I would like to sincerely apologize to Ivanka Trump and to my viewers for using an expletive on my show to describe her last night. It was inappropriate and inexcusable. I crossed a line, and I deeply regret it.” - Samantha Bee

It is not clear what action TBS Network will take to address concerns of viewers, and especially the White House, which has publicly rebuked Bee’s behavior.
