Bob Hoskins retires

Bob Hoskins, one of Britain's finest actors is to retire after being diagnosed with Parkinson's disease this past year.

At aged 69, Hoskins has had a tremendous career that goes back to Dennis Potter's 'Pennies from Heaven' as Arthur Parker. Hoskins was first introduced to acting in the 1960s where he auditioned for a play and was cast in his first TV role in 'On The move' about adult illiteracy. His first major role at the cinema was in 'The Long Good Friday' which came out in 1980.

The actor has played a variety of roles over the years and has worked with some of the most prolific directors. Some of his memorable performances are films such as 'Super Mario Bros.' (1993), 'Brazil' (1985), 'Mona Lisa' (1986). He has also received critical acclaim for his work in both films and TV series. He won Best Actor for 'Mona Lisa' and was nominated for an Academy Award the same year. Most recently, in 2010, Hoskins received a nomination for Best Supporting Actor in 'Made in Dagenham'.

Hoskins has also worked behind the camera as a director on two films 'The Raggedy Rawney' (1988) and Rainbow (1996)

His last film role was in 'Snow White & The Huntsman' which came out earlier this year, and was a big success at the box office. Hoskins' acting will be surely missed.
