Justin Bieber has been named 'Artist of the year' at the 2012 American Music Awards, beating Rihanna, Maroon 5, Drake and Katy Perry in the top category.

The frenzy surrounding Justin Bieber and Selena Gomez's recent relationship breakdown stole much of the spotlight ahead of the AMA's but Bieber's victory last night proved to be a career highlight he may never forget. With the media's attention on his win, Bieber decided to address the massive hate he has received over the years, with a defiant message that will most probably infuriate his mortal enemies :

"I want to say this is for all the haters who thought that I was just here for one or two years. I feel like I'm going to be here for a very long time."

What was touching was the moment when Bieber took to the stage with his mom, Pattie Malette, who revealed earlier this year a memoir that highlighted her troubled past. It was a defining victory for both of them, and Bieber fans will be screaming with joy to see their favorite artist making it big once again.
