The internationally recognized psychological film festival Frenzy-Fest has opened its call for 2022 and will be making its competition accessible to artists of all nationalities.
Frenzy-Festival this year includes two categories for short films: Filmmaker (Short Film) and Screenwriter (Scripts).
The festival will select up to three (3) scripts for the Screenwriters competition and up to six (6) short films for the Filmmakers competition in their 2022 selection. Scripts and short films can be submitted in English or Spanish as well as in any other language (Short films that are not in English or Spanish must have subtitles). The scripts of the selected Screenwriter category will be produced by BIP, turning them into a final cut short film.
FRENZY-FESTIVAL focuses on the social and psychological vulnerabilities of people and communities in general. Every short film and script must revolve around a “frenzy” type episode, a phase in which excitement seems to lead us to unconsciousness, and that can become negative when control is lost, or behavior transgresses what society considers “normal” (Frenzy episodes are a form of mental agitation, violent excitement, emotional breakdown, delirium and/or rage). The central theme of all plays and short films submitted to the Frenzy Fest this year should cover the human mind and frenzy episodes.
Each short film may present social issues that can touch on topics including drug-addition, rape, domestic-violence, immigration-issues, LGBT-relationships, catastrophic illnesses, suicide, anxiety, panic attacks, PTSD disorders, bipolarity, and social problems such as poverty or war that lead to individuals suffering from frenzy like episodes, extending the festival submission criteria to a wide audience since all individuals, whether directly or indirectly, have had to face some of these types of situations. The genres are also open in this year’s competition (drama, comedy, mystery thriller for example).
The 2022 Frenzy-Fest is set to take place in November with live presentations at El Barrio’s Artspace PS109 in New York and will also be exhibited online. For more information and those interested, submissions can be made via the official website’s online application.
